The Merits of Carved Mani Stone


[White Lotus Sutra] preaches that paying homage to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the sixty-two Ganges River and reciting their names is equivalent to the merits of reciting and reciting the name of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The merits cannot be exhausted for hundreds of thousands of kalpas. [The Eleven-Faced Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Dharani Tantra] preaches that if you recite the Avalokitesvara mantra one hundred and eight times, you will gain ten kinds of merits in this life. First, you will be free from disease and suffering. Second, you will be protected by the Buddhas. Third, you will have abundant wealth. Fourth, you will conquer your enemies. Fifth, you will get the king’s love and protection, Sixth, you will not be invaded by poisons (poisons and jewelry poisons). Seventh, all the diseases and epidemics will not come to you. Eighth, the sword and staff will not damage you. Ninth, you will not be drowned in floods. Tenth, you will not have unpredictable death. At the end of life, you will obtain four kinds of merits. One is to see the Buddhas face to face. The second is to escape from the evil realms. The third is to die without fear, and the fourth is to be reborn in the Pure Land.

 

[The Eleven-Faced Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Dharani Tantra] also says that reciting the Avalokitesvara mantra once (sincerely) Hinayana practitioners can eliminate the sins of killing, stealing, sexual immorality, and other sins plus five uninterrupted sins. Reciting it seven times, all the karma created in one lifetime, two lifetimes, three lifetimes, four lifetimes, five lifetimes, six lifetimes, seven lifetimes, and even a hundred lifetimes can be wiped out; Reciting it twenty-one times will clear away all the karma created in thousands of kalpas and generate bodhicitta; Reciting it 108 times will eliminate Reincarnation for 40,000 kalpas.; Reciting the mantra in the ears of the living beings before death, then after the death of this life, will reward a male body for ten kalpas; Reciting the mantra in the ears of the birds, fish, and other living beings, give up this body, and obtain the human body of heaven, which is an extraordinary life.


[Buddha Preached of the Mahayana Solemn Jewel King Sutra] declares that whoever recalls the holy name of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva will be freed from the suffering of birth, aging, illness and death, escape from reincarnation forever, wear white clothes like the wind, and be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. This person will also be reborn as a lotus, see Amitabha Buddha in person, and listen to sutras, Dharma, and gain immeasurable merit. Whoever wears the pendant of [om mani padmei hum] Mantra will have a vajra body, which is the same as a stupa, and understands the wisdom of the Buddha; Whoever recites the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra will have merits that cannot be forgotten (nor are they destroyed in vain), are endowed with compassion, and gain. The pure aggregate of wisdom gathers loving kindness and great compassion; The number of dust particles in a great kalpa can be measured, and the merits of reciting [om mani padmei hum] Mantra once cannot be counted; The sand at the bottom of the sea can be weighed, and the merits of reciting the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra once cannot be counted. The water droplets of the four seas can still be weighed, and the merits of reciting [om mani padmei hum] Mantra are incalculable. The hairs of horses, donkeys, oxen, etc. can still be counted, and the merits of reciting the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra are immeasurable.

 

Songtsen Gampo preached in [The Complete Works of Mani] that reciting the word Om can complete the donation of Prajnaparamita and so on and holding the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra can complete the six perfections. Reciting the word Om can cut off the gates of life for gods and humans, holding the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra can cut off the gates of life for the six realms. Reciting the word Om can obtain the most extraordinary siddhis, holding the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra can obtain six kinds of extraordinary siddhis.


The above-mentioned merits and virtues are all recorded in Buddhist sutras and tantras. Every word is the true words of the Buddha and eminent monks. We must have true faith and understanding.


Master Padmasambhava once said that the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra can sow the seeds of liberation whether seen or heard. Whoever recites it will never be reborn in the three evil realms again, and will be destined to me in all lives. Regular exposure to the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra is equivalent to seeing the real me. Among all methods, the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra can quickly remove human and non-human injuries, all diseases, and obstacles caused by the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind. In the next life, you can stay away from the three evil paths and the entire reincarnation cycle, and definitely be reborn in pure land. Therefore, the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra covers all Dharma, and everyone should recite the [om mani padmei hum] Mantra together.

 

    To accumulate wealth and good fortune

    [om mani padmei hum] Mani stone should be an offering for cultivation.

 

    No matter what the crisis and danger facing,

    [om mani padmei hum] Mantra will be the refuge.

 

    Such a remarkable spiritual Mantra,

    Never to be found in the Three Realms.

    (Desire Realm, Form Realm, Formless Realm).

 

    Buddhism has lived long in the world,

    Great holders of the teachings have the eternal Dharma.

 

    [om mani padmei hum] Mantra has been saving this troubled and unfortunate world,

    By letting all sentient beings peacefully and happily hold the Six Paramitas.

 

    There is no need to think about this cultivation too much,

    Just be diligent and practice this special Mantra.

 

    The fruits of those who have predestined relationships with this Mantra are abundant.

Therefore, everyone should try their best to participate in the Avalokitesvara’s group practice held by [The source of teachings and dharma], and carve mani stones. In tradition, paper and gauze are also used to carve mani, and they are made into prayer flags and hung at high places. These good practices are very meritorious. The mani carved on the stone can be preserved for a longer period of time. Patrul Rinpoche once said that Mani Stone is not afraid of snow in winter, water in summer, and robbers in general. When the wind blows over the mani stone, it can carry the mantra to other places. No matter which sentient being encounters such wind, it can obtain liberation.

For ourselves, when we carve mani stone with bodhicitta, the merits are all over the universe; before the mani stone is destroyed, the merits are real. Therefore, after carving mani stone, we should hold it with bodhicitta, rejoice every day, and often dedicate it to others. , the merits will increase more and more.
